Pide

Turkish Pide

Turkish pide is a delicious boat-shaped stuffed flatbread. It's perfect as a main course or a savoury snack.

Ingredients for the dough:

  • 500 g wheat flour
  • 10 g dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 300 ml lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Ingredients for the filling:

  • 200 g minced meat (beef, lamb, or chicken)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley or coriander for garnish

Method:

Prepare the dough:

  1. Mix the yeast and sugar into the lukewarm water and let it rest for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt, then add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until soft and elastic. Add more flour or water if needed.
  4. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
