
American Meatloaf with Ketchup Glaze
This American-style meatloaf recipe with a rich ketchup glaze on top and inside the loaf is sure to become one of your go-to comfort meals.
Ingredients:
For the meatloaf
- 500 g minced beef
- 1 onion
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon wholegrain mustard
- ½ bunch of parsley
- 6 tablespoons breadcrumbs
- 50 ml milk
- 1 tablespoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper
- Butter or oil for greasing the dish
For the glaze
- 100 ml ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- Wash and finely chop the parsley. Peel and finely dice the onion.
- Place the minced beef in a large bowl. Crush the garlic over it and add the remaining ingredients.
- Mix thoroughly. Use a small loaf tin or ovenproof dish that fits the mixture snugly, and grease it beforehand.
- Bake the meatloaf for 45 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare the glaze by mixing all the glaze ingredients. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- After 45 minutes, carefully turn the meatloaf out onto a baking dish. Spread the glaze evenly over the top and sides. Return to the oven for another 10 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let the meatloaf rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.
