Smoked trout with creamy horseradish sauce

A classic German starter with Bavarian roots: smoked trout with a refreshing horseradish cream. Simple, elegant, and perfect with dark bread or potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 200 g smoked trout fillets
  • 100 ml sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon grated horseradish (fresh or from a jar)
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon mild mustard
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives or parsley
  • Optional: slices of apple or cucumber

Preparation

  1. Check if the trout fillets are boneless and divide into portions.
  2. Grate the horseradish if necessary.
  3. Slice apple or cucumber thinly and sprinkle with lemon juice.

Method

  1. Stir the sour cream in a bowl and mix with horseradish, mustard, lemon juice, salt and pepper.
  2. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired.
  3. Arrange the trout on a plate or platter, optionally with apple or cucumber slices.
  4. Serve the horseradish cream on the side or on top and garnish with chives or parsley.

Serving tip

Delicious with dark sourdough bread or rye bread and pickled red onions. Serve well chilled.
