Bell pepper

Bell peppers are a versatile and colourful vegetable loved around the world. From crunchy salads to warm stir-fries and stuffed peppers, this vegetable is perfect for countless dishes. Not only are bell peppers flavourful, but they are also rich in vitamins like vitamin C and antioxidants, making them a healthy addition to your diet.

Bell peppers come in various colours: red, yellow, green, and orange. Each colour has its own unique flavour and use. Green peppers are crisp and slightly bitter, while red peppers are sweet and juicy. Yellow and orange peppers offer a balance between sweet and mild.

Buying and Storing

When buying bell peppers, look for firm ones with smooth, shiny skin. Avoid peppers with soft spots or dull areas, as these indicate reduced freshness.

Store bell peppers in the vegetable drawer of your fridge, where they will keep for up to a week. Want to store them longer? Cut the peppers into pieces and freeze them after removing the seeds. Frozen peppers are ideal for soups, sauces, and stir-fries.

In the Kitchen

Bell peppers are extremely versatile in the kitchen. Use them raw in salads, slice them into strips for a healthy snack with hummus, or add them to stir-fries. Stuffed peppers are a classic: fill them with rice, minced meat, cheese, or vegetables and bake them in the oven.

For a roasted flavour, you can grill or roast bell peppers whole. The skin will blacken and can easily be peeled off, giving the pepper a sweeter, more intense taste.
