
Carapaus à Algarvia
A simple and traditional recipe from the Algarve, where the mackerel is grilled and served with olive oil, garlic, and lemon.

Ingredients:
- 4 fresh mackerel
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 bunch of fresh coriander and/or parsley
Preparation:
- Clean the mackerel, rinse under cold water, and pat dry.
- Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves.
- Squeeze the lemon.
- Wash and finely chop the coriander and/or parsley.
Method:
- Marinate the mackerel with olive oil, garlic, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Leave to rest for 15–20 minutes.
- Grill the mackerel on a hot barbecue or grill pan for 3–4 minutes on each side until the skin is crispy.
- Serve with lemon juice and sprinkle with fresh coriander or parsley.
Delicious with: boiled potatoes, grilled vegetables, or a fresh tomato salad.
