Plum chutney with raisins & walnuts

This rich plum chutney combines the sweetness of raisins with the earthy crunch of walnuts. Delicious with cheese boards or warm dishes.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams ripe plums
  • 1 onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 100 grams raisins
  • 50 grams walnuts
  • 200 grams granulated sugar
  • 120 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Preparation

  • Wash, pit and halve the plums.
  • Peel and finely chop the onion and garlic.
  • Chop the walnuts.

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat and add the onion and garlic. Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.
  2. Add the plums, raisins, chopped walnuts, sugar, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the plums are soft and the chutney thickens (about 40 minutes).
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness or seasoning if desired.
  5. Let the chutney cool and store in sterilised jars.
