Spicy turkey skewer with Harissa & cumin

These spicy turkey skewers are a flavourful combination of North African harissa, roasted spices and a hint of honey. They are delicious grilled and pair perfectly with refreshing side dishes like raita or couscous.

Total time: approx. 2 hours and 22 minutes

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 500 g turkey breast
  • 2 tbsp harissa
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 10 to 15 white peppercorns
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Pinch of salt

Preparation

  • Cut turkey breast into equal-sized cubes.
  • Grind cumin seeds and peppercorns in a mortar and pestle.
  • If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes.

Cooking

  1. In a bowl, mix the harissa, olive oil, ground cumin and pepper, smoked paprika, honey, and salt into a marinade.
  2. Add the turkey cubes and mix well to coat them fully in the marinade.
  3. Cover and marinate in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
  4. Thread the turkey onto the skewers.
  5. Grill over medium heat (barbecue or grill pan) for about 10–12 minutes, turning regularly, until the turkey is cooked through and caramelised.
