Brown rice

Brown rice is rice in which the bran layer around the grain is left intact. This gives the rice a firmer bite, a slightly nutty flavour and a fuller character than white rice. The cooking time is usually longer, but in return you get a type of rice that holds up well in wholesome and simple dishes.

In the kitchen, brown rice works well with vegetables, pulses, grilled fish, chicken, curries and meal salads. Thanks to its firm texture, it is also suitable for cooking in advance and using later in rice salads, bowls or fried rice.
