Sticky rice

Sticky rice is a type of rice that becomes firm and sticky after steaming. The grains clearly cling together, making the rice easy to shape or eat by hand. Sticky rice plays an important role in several Southeast Asian cuisines, including those of Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

In the kitchen, sticky rice is used in both savoury and sweet dishes. It goes well with grilled meat, spicy dips, coconut milk, mango, desserts and stuffed rice parcels. The rice is usually soaked first and then steamed.
