Oma’s tomatensalade met zoetzure dressing

Grandma’s tomato salad

This simple tomato salad is a true family recipe, just like grandma used to make. With ripe tomatoes and a classic sweet-and-sour dressing, it’s a delicious side dish that pairs perfectly with summer meals or hearty Dutch fare.

Marinating: 30 minutes
Total time: 40 minutes

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 6 ripe vine tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons natural vinegar (apple cider or white wine vinegar)
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • 3 tablespoons fine granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or to taste)
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper

Preparation

  • Wash the tomatoes and slice them thinly.
  • Arrange the slices overlapping on a large serving platter.

Instructions

  1. Mix vinegar, lime juice, sugar and honey in a bowl until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
  2. Add a pinch of freshly ground black pepper and taste the dressing. Adjust with more honey or vinegar if needed.
  3. Pour the dressing evenly over the tomatoes.
  4. Let the salad marinate at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Serve at room temperature for the best flavour.
